Find Your Tribe

It’s been said that you become the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

Seth Godin says, “One of the most powerful of our survival mechanisms is to be part of a tribe, to contribute to (and take from) a group of like-minded people. We are drawn to leaders and to their ideas, and we can’t resist the rush of belonging and the thrill of the new.”

Just before the COVID-19 quarantine I had just signed the deal to purchase my facility. One of the biggest moves of my career and I was already having to overcome adversity. I was nervous about what would happen to the gym if the shutdown continued too long. Members were dropping—fast!

Peloton stock was skyrocketing; Beachbody and other on-demand programs were all the rage. People were prepping their garages with fitness equipment as if gyms would be a thing of the past.

Three months came and went before we saw any light at the end of the tunnel. We finally got to hold outdoor fitness classes.

We’re not out of this pandemic yet but people are coming back. Small gyms like ours, the ones that have limited members and can control who’s coming into our facility are starting to grow. We have seen a growth in a personal training and semi-private numbers. People are looking to be around like minded people again. So whether it’s your book club, religious study group or your gym, get out there!

The energy, the sounds, and the real life people pushing you to be better, stronger and faster doesn’t compare to the video you’re watching.

We have all missed the smiles that have been masked for months.

When the world around you is seemingly falling apart, we’re here for you to put it all back together. The camaraderie of your tribe of people pulling for you to succeed. Workouts at 6 a.m. don’t seem nearly as early when surrounded by your tribe. All the feels are not the same when you see your people through a computer screen.

When you are here, your trainer is here to push you and your tribe is here to motivate!

Tribes of all kinds are important because:

-When life becomes difficult or things get in the way, your tribe is there to hold you accountable.

-In those moments when you don’t believe in yourself, there will be members of your tribe that do believe in you.

-If nothing else, your tribe is there to care about you and what you say. Let them be your outlet.

Go find yours.
